With a view to producing biogas, an anaerobic biological reactor with wet technology and suspended
bed is to be fed with a biowaste that initially has 10% moisture (wet basis) with the following elemental
weight composition CHO0.4200.065?0.515(dry basis).
a) To prepare a reactor feed mixture containing 15% solids (wet basis), determine the amount of water
you need to add to 1kg of this biowaste to reach this moisture content.
b) Neglecting the formation of digestate, determine the mass balance of the process.
c) Determine the composition of the (dry) biogas.
d) Under the above conditions and assuming that the process takes place at 20C, determine the
expected volume of biogas.
e) Under the above conditions, determine the amount of water that results from the process and
remains with the digestate/condensate/liquid phase.
