WMS, A Western Australian engineering firm, specialises in the design and manufacturing of custom mining equipment such as ore-sorters and crushing plants. This equipment is manufactured in Perth, and then delivered by truck to its final location of remote mine sites, which can be upwards of 1,500km (over 16 hours drive) away. The journey contains stretches of unmarked road through unpopulated areas. In the last year, two trucks have rolled in these areas after collisions with wildlife, causing damage to the equipment, and in one case injuring the driver. WMS were not aware of the incident until the truck failed to arrive, at which point a rescue and recovery team were sent, but due to the remoteness of the location it still took several hours for them to reach the truck.

In response, WMS is attempting to implement Journey Management Software. This functions as an app on the driver's phone, where they enter their planned itinerary, including departure and arrival times, locations, and rest breaks. The software then tracks their current position via GPS, and compares it to the planned itinerary. If any deviation is noted, or an unplanned stop occurs, a notification is sent to the operations team for follow-up.

There is noticeable resistance from the drivers in response to this change, as they are unhappy about the perceived micromanagement, excessive surveillance, and having to learn to use new technology.
