Workstation Analysis and Smart Phone Ergonomics1. Computer Workstation Assessment

Use the following checklist (starting on page 25) to assess your (or someone else's) computer workstation:

As part of your discussion:

• Provide a brief description of your workstation including the types of work (or play) you use your workstation for and the approximate amount of time you spend at the workstation: daily total and the maximum continuous time.
• Review the checklist, answer each question, and provide a completed copy of the checklist. As noted in the guideline, "Whenever the answer is no, see the relevant section of the Ministry of Labour's Health and Safety Guideline "Computer Workstations: Layout and Lighting."" Discuss each "no" answer indicating what the problems are and indicate whether these issues cause you any physical or visual discomfort.
• Where there are problems, suggest some possible solutions (you must cite your sources).
• Provide photographs or a diagram/sketch with dimensions relevant to your discussion above.
• Briefly discuss the potential consequences of a poorly designed computer workstation. You must cite at least two (2) different peer-reviewed research articles for this discussion.

2. Smart Phone Ergonomics and Internet Interaction.

1. Describe your upper body posture while using your cell phone to browse, email, or text. Does it cause you any discomfort?
2. What are the risks associated with poor posture while using a mobile device? You must cite at least one peer-reviewed source in your answer.
3. Discuss recommendations to reduce the risk of MSD while using mobile devices. You must cite at least two different peer-reviewed articles in this discussion.
