Every project has a set goal. The goal includes not only the deliverables but also the release date of the deliverables. The schedule is important to ensure that what needs to be done is planned and executed to achieve the release date. Since projects are often cross-organizational, a detailed plan is necessary for the success of the project. This plan should not be created by the project manager alone, and the schedule should not be set at will. The schedule must be realistic, and this is especially important if the project is to be carried out while conducting daily business. If you ignore the situation of the people you are working with and make a unilateral schedule, you will inevitably be met with opposition. If you are too respectful of others, you may not be able to meet the deadline. If your schedule falls behind the plan, you will not only miss the deadline but also incur the cost of the delay.
I am not very good at time management even in my daily life. For this reason, I try to be careful when participating in projects, but since I often carry out tasks in parallel with my daily work, I tend to start taking action only after the deadline is approaching. When I was appointed as the project leader, I did the same thing and caused trouble for the people around me. Objectively speaking, it was a kind of project, but I didn't feel that way at the time, and I was doing it as an extension of my daily work. As a result, the departments that needed our cooperation had less time to work, we did not have enough time to discuss, and we neglected to check the progress of the work we had asked them to do. In the end, everything was delayed by several months and I had to move to a new department and hand it over to my successor in such a state.
