Case Many people around the world have been impacted by COVID-19and your organization wants to help by raising money for a specific organization. Pick an organization (Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services or HCS, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, CDC, WHO, or another) for whom to raise money. It is also acceptable to raise awareness for current events that you are passionate about (e.g., Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, National Lawyers Guild, or organizations fighting for police accountability). Explain to your co-workers why and how to donate by doing a bit of research online using reader-centered, tangible rationale (how would the reader benefit from donating, what would make him/her/them feel good?). Use a variety of appeals (logos, pathos, and ethos) and visual appeal (bold, italics, underline, bullets, charts, pictures, sizes, spacing, etc. as necessary to emphasize persuasion and interest). Show empathy for their point of view by including a counterargument and refutation. Add any other information as necessary to make it realistic, specific, cordial, etc. A. Plan: Main message: I'm trying to persuade (who is the audience?) to (make what change, donate how much, do what else?) Audience: Internal or external? B. Draft your ideas next: Show organization of components in this chart. Components My Message Tone Guidelines Use an attention- getter Gain attention Describe the need Apply a personal touch Use tangible, action- Describe the solution oriented, lively language Describe the rationale Show positivity and write with confidence Counter-argument and refutation Show consideration of the audience's hesitation and autonomy Call to action and show appreciation Offer choice in respectable manner Persuasive Business Message Draft Compose your message below (short sentences and paragraphs). Put the sentences in your outline above in the message below. Notice it should be a few paragraphs long, but the content and word choice are more important (and worth more points) than the length of the message. To: From: Date: Subject: (attention-grabbing, not too obvious that it is a persuasive message) Dear (realistic audience title and last-name) (full message in visually appealing, eady-to-process format) Persuasive Message Example SUBJECT: CPR and First Aid - Get Training! Dear Employees, Are you interested in learning how to save a life? ABC has recently started a training course in First Aid and CPR. Completing this training will allow you to perform basic first aid and CPR. Not long ago, we had an employee go into cardiac arrest and only one employee knew how to perform CPR, a live saving technique to keep someone alive while medical help in transit. It is essential to employee's lives that we all know of these procedures. These skills will not be tied only to the workplace, but these apply anywhere. This course is one that any employee can take as long as you are not already certified. Training costs are only $50 for employees who are part-time or have been here shorter than six months. We realize that $50 could be a bit of an expense; however, there will be a raffle drawing of $100 for any employee who attends all classesyou could be getting paid to learn! The application must be filled out here, just have it signed by you and your immediate supervisor to be considered complete before November 30, 2017. We will email you from there! Supplies can be bought for training in cash for a nominal fee of $5 to be purchased at the orientation. Please be sure to bring your ID. Any further questions can be directed to hroffice@abc.com or 253-123-9876. We look forward to having more of our employees trained in life-saving techniques!
