The head office consists of four departments: General Support, Marketing, and Sales and Warehouse. General support and Warehouse are located on the first floor whereas the marketing and the sales departments are located on second and third floors of the building respectively. General support has 40 workstations, Warehouse has 15 workstations, marketing has 30 workstations, and sales has 35 workstations. All the departments require to communicate with each other for data and document sharing. Every workstation needs access to the Internet, the company internal Internet (intranet), and e-mail server. Each floor has a printer connected on the network. The head office also requires wireless internet connectivity for all the floors. The company is also planning to establish three new branches in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. According to the specifications provided, the most user resource requirements will be met by servers located in the same office. The main communication requirements between offices relate to print jobs, e-mails and periodic file transfers. Suppose you are hired as the network engineer of the company to design the network for the head office. The department manager of the company has asked you to prepare a networking solution that enables employees in all three new offices to communicate both internally and between the other branch offices and head office. The network design needs to incorporate both wired and wireless networks.
