Questions to consider:

Your Response:

1. Define a current issue or real world problem

What topic do you want to focus on that affects your audience/ community? Discuss the prevalence of the issue and qualify its relevance using credible evidence to make your case.

Justify the problem.

The topic that I want to focus on is the issue of transportation. I want to focus more on how Stafford's (and Virginia in general) transportation system has a lack of bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. This makes it difficult for people who prefer walking or cycling as their primary mode of transport to navigate safely through the town. Many residents must rely on personal vehicles to get around

town, contributing to traffic congestion and air pollution.

2. Identify

Strategies

Brainstorm multiple approaches for solving the problem that apply within the context.

  • invest in improving road infrastructure by widening roads and building new ones to ease traffic congestion.
  • introduce more public transport options such as buses or trains to reduce the number of cars on the road. This will also help reduce air pollution caused by vehicles.
  • promoting alternative modes of transportation such as cycling or walking through the creation of bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly sidewalks can help reduce traffic while promoting healthy living.

3. Propose

Solutions/

Hypotheses

Choose the

solution(s) that best address the problem raised.

I think expanding on all of these would be beneficial, but for now I want to focus on creating bike lanes and more sidewalks.

4. Evaluate potential solutions thoroughly

What are the strengths and weaknesses of your proposed solutions listed in #3? Are these solution(s) logical and/or practical?

I feel like they all produce great strengths but the weaknesses are that the solutions would cost a lot of money and time to implement.

I believe they are all logical and practical to solve our transportation issue.

5.

Implement

Solutions

What are the steps to implement your solutions and what are potential obstacles to its

-      The first step in implementing these solutions is to conduct a thorough analysis of the existing infrastructure and identify areas where sidewalks and bike lanes are needed. This can be done through surveys, public meetings, and

implementation?

consultations with transportation experts.

-

The next step is to secure funding for construction. This can be done through grants from state or federal agencies or by allocating funds from the local budget.

-

It is also crucial to educate residents about the benefits of using these new facilities. This can be done through public outreach campaigns that promote active transportation as a healthy and sustainable alternative to driving.

-

One significant obstacle is the lack of funding. The construction of sidewalks and bike lanes requires a considerable amount of money, which may not be readily available. This could result in delays or even abandonment of the project.

-

Another obstacle is the resistance from some residents who may not see the need for such changes. Some may argue that it will disrupt traffic flow or reduce parking spaces, making it challenging to gain community support.

-

There may be challenges with land acquisition and zoning regulations that could limit the availability of space for constructing sidewalks and bike lanes.

6. Evaluate

Outcomes

What additional resources or steps are needed to implement your proposed solution successfully? How will you measure the success of your proposed solution(s)?

-

Skilled laborers such as engineers, architects and construction workers are necessary to design and build the infrastructure. City planners must work closely with transportation officials to ensure that these new additions fit seamlessly into existing roadways. We can measure the success by

recording/observing the changes in traffic flow.
