As Criminal Justice Professionals, our decisions should always be free of partiality and prejudice, and unimpeded by conflicts of interest as we carry out our responsibility to serve the public. Daily, we are confronted with choices and decisions that test our objectivity and judgment. There is no better national example of this than the case of George Floyd. On May 25, 2022, police officers and emergency medical professions responded to a business worker's criminal complaint about a man - George Floyd. Regardless of whether Mr. Floyd was innocent or guilty of the alleged criminal offenses, they had an obligation and responsibility to their department, the public, and humanity to treat Mr. Floyd with respect, dignity, and humanely. Eight minutes and Forty-Six seconds after being detained by police and pinned to the ground, Mr. Floyd was dead. Following the incident and later at trials, police officer defendants tried to explain the Objective Judgment they used in restraining Mr. Floyd. This assignment is for you to analyze this incident, focusing on the Objective Judgment used by the police officers and medical professionals at the scene. This assignment is NOT a case brief of the George Floyd incident. It is an ethical analysis of the Objective Judgment used or not used by those involved. In your immediate past assignment, some of you really thought out the ethical relation between the specific incident and the ethical principle - that is what I am looking for.
