IF Function: Allows you to test a condition and return a specific value is the result is true and a different value if the result is false.The syntax of the IF function is "=IF(test_condition value_if_true,value_it_false)."Excel processes the IF function by separating it out into separate parts: First, it looks to validate or invalidate the test_condition, once Excel determines if the result of that test_condition is TRUE or FALSE, it will return the value_if_true or value_if_false. Throughout the entire equation, if text is being used in the test_condition, value_if_true, or value_if_false arguments, then the text itself should be entered in quotations so that Excel will recognize the text as a "string of text" instead of another function. If you entered "=IF(C6>10000,"Cash is great","Cash") into a blank cell, the formula would look to C6 to determine if the value was greater than 1000, and populate the text "Cash is great" if C6 were in fact greater than 1000. If the value of C6 were less than 1000, the cell into which you entered the IF statement would populate the word "Cash." AND Function: Allows you to check if multiple conditions result as TRUE. The syntax of the AND function is "AND(logical1.logical..." where logicall and logical are the conditions being tested. If you entered "AND(B8>1000,19>1000)" into a blank cell, the formula would output the word TRUE if both B8 were greater than 1000 and B9 were greater than 1000. Since the result will provide with a TRUE or FALSE result, the function is frequently used as the test_condition argument of an IF function. For example, if you entered "=IF(AND(B8>1000,B9>1000),"Low AR accounts","High AR accounts")" the formula would output the result of "Low AR accounts" if B8 and B9 are both greater than 1000. When using multiple functions, called nesting functions, it is very important to place opening and closing parentheses.
