Years of playing soccer and working as a grounds maintenance worker had finally taken its toll on Poppi and he required knee surgery in order to repair his ligaments and cartilage in his left knee. It became clear soon after that, that the operation had been negligently performed and Poppi would need a second operation. However, at no stage was Poppi told that he should not drive following the operation. Needing to earn some money Poppi went back to work early and one day, while driving to work, the traffic lights went red and Poppi had to brake sharply. When he did this the pain in his knee became too great and Poppi had to take his foot off the brake. Realizing he would overrun the light if he did nothing, Poppi swerved on to the pavement and hit a bus stop. Upon admission to hospital Poppi was informed that he had lost the use of his leg.

Also, in the crash, Fred, a waiting bus passenger, injured his back. Fred subsequently was diagnosed with an unrelated deteriorating back condition that would one day have seen him end up in a wheelchair.

Advise Poppi as to his own injuries and his potential liability to Fred.
