You are a human rights activist at a non-profit NGO that covers a variety of human rights issues. The executive director is looking for a new cause and asked you to suggest a human rights situation/crisis that you feel passionate about and that you feel is not getting the attention it deserves or is not being addressed appropriately. The ED would like you to summarize a short memo stating the following, short summary:
1) State the human rights situation/crisis 2) List one or two international or regional entities or institutions that should be addressing the situation/crisis and why you chose them. 3) State what the entities/institutions that you listed should be doing to address the situation and include whether they have been doing anything and what. What more should they do? Please include a list of sources (not included in word count).

Twenty-five suspeets were convicted in \"show- trials\" and sentenced to death. The majority of detained terrorism suspects and all of the \"convicted\" individuals are Buddhists. The Mayor claims that because the individuals are terrorists (and Dystopia is \"at war with terrorism\"), they can be detained indefinitely and subjected to harsh interrogations and trials with little or no due process. The UN Mandate Holders (Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, Special Rapporteur on Promotion of Human Rights while Countering Terrorism, Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion) and the Committce Against Torture all have relevant expertise but they will not be able to move fast enough to prevent future harm or executions of the currently 100 detained Buddhists. Dystopia is in the State of Maricopa, which is a member state of the OAS and a signatory to the American Convention. We should petition the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, asking it to issue precautionary measures to Maricopa, requesting that Maricopa adopt measures to stop future torture of detainees and refrain from carrying out any death sentences until the convictions can be appealed in a regularly constituted court. Secondarily, I suggest we contact the relevant mandate holders regarding the indefinite detention and the apparent religious discrimination so that they can initiate a country visit.
