You are a lieutenant working night shift in your office when a female officer, Jenkins, comes in and is visibly upset. She says that she just left a meeting with her supervisor, Sgt. Montgomery, in which they discussed in detail her annual performance evaluation. She is irate and complains that Montgomery evaluated her unfairly. She also asserts that she and Montgomery have been "intimate" for several months, but she recently broke off their relationship upon learning that he was seeing other women. She believes that now, as a result, he is vengeful and biased in his evaluation, thereby putting a blot on her personnel record and harming future chances for promotion. Jenkins leaves, and you summon Sgt. Montgomery to your office. He comes in with a very different account of the situation. First, he maintains that the two have never dated (because, he says that would be in violation of agency policy). Second, he believes he was fair in Jenkins' evaluation, and that she actually slapped his face before she left his office. He demands to know what you, as their commander, are going to do about her and this "assault."
