You are a paralegal working for Attorney Barry Learned. Our client is Joe Artist, a well-known artist living on Captiva. Artist works in a variety of artistic media, including glass-etching, preparing art posters, and sculpting. Two years ago, when Artist was living in California, he sold the following works to his client, Gabrielle Edwards, for the following prices: The sculpture entitled "Woman With Child" $10,000.00 Four art posters $1,000.00 each A painting $1,500.00 A stained glass window, entitled "Roses At Dawn"1 $14,000.00 At the time of the sale, Artist wrote on the receipt for the works: "I assign all my rights in these works to G. Edwards." Artist recently discovered Edwards resold the posters for $1,500.00 each and resold the painting for $900.00. Edwards resold the sculpture for $20,000.00. Additionally, Edwards resold her house to another person at a significant profit. Artist would like to know if he can recover any profits made by Edwards on these sales. Edwards continues to reside in California. On behalf of Attorney Learned, draft a legal correspondence to the client helping me better understand and explain the legal issues relying upon California Civil Code section 986, which I've provided, and advise how the client should proceed
