You are a Partner with Fix-It Consultants and have been engaged in an advisory capacity with a software company, called MoveFast. The company is seeing a sharp decline in revenue, with the primary driving factor being outdated application, with sub-optimal performance.

Sarah Conner is the recently appointed Vice President of Product Development at MoveFast. MoveFast is a cloud-based application that provides customers the ability to e-sign contracts and documents.

In her initial months with MoveFast, Sarah noted a few challenges that have been hampering the software development process. In your initial interview with Sarah, she lays out the following points as a root cause for these challenges:

  • They had been a slow-moving development organization.
  • They are trying to compete in the digital economy, which requires you to be fast, (fast beats slow.)
  • They need to be innovative and have a lot of new ideas, but the execution has been a challenge.
  • They have not been able to maintain quality. Being a software vendor, quality is number one. So they need to ensure that they are able to measure, maintain, and ultimately improve our quality.

Sarah has been in the software industry for over multiple decades. Right away, she knew that MoveFast needs to implement the following changes right away. She goes on and explains that the solution to her challenges is as follows:

  • Speed: We knew we wanted to be fast so that we could have continuous code drops and fulfill business needs on a timely basis.
  • Confidence: We wanted to have the confidence to know that when we made changes, what we were delivering was going to work and was good, so we had to know that we could move at a fast pace to be able to deliver what we wanted.
  • Efficiency: We had to be efficient, and move across the entire enterprise.
  • Ease of use: Our tools had to be easy to empower our developers to be able to move at that pace, and to make updates and enhancements that would be valuable, provide business needs, and meet the business objectives.
  • Integrations: Being in our enterprise companies, the mainframe integrates across the entire enterprise, through the cloud, and all the way back to your mainframe system of record. So we had to make sure that those integrations would be available.

As the partner of Fix-It Consultants, Sarah asks you while she is clear on the changes she wants to make, she is not sure how to go about making these changes. She requests your advice as follows:

  1. Using the information provided above, please provide a recommendation for a software development framework that Move Fast should use, explaining FOUR key reasons for selecting the framework (5 Points)
  2. As the companys software development process is archaic, Sarah has asked for your advice to explain to her the potential pitfalls or challenges she might face in implementing your selected framework. Please explain at least FOUR challenges Sarah might face while undergoing this transformation exercise. (5 Points)
