You are an insurance broker in the Republic Of Ireland. One of your clients, Mrs Wood, insures her car on a private motor car insurance policy for third party, fire and theft cover where she cannot claim under her own policy for damage to her vehicle. Mrs Wood informs you that earlier today she left her car parked on the road outside her house. She later looked out of her front window to see that an unoccupied vehicle, belonging to her neighbour Mr Moore, had rolled off his front drive, collided with her car and damaged it. Mrs Wood was aware that Mr Moore's vehicle had been parked on his drive, without being moved, for several months. Mrs Wood spoke to Mr Moore who explained that, unfortunately, he believed that his current insurance policy would not provide an indemnity for this incident. Mrs Wood asks for your advice. a) Identify, with justification, one legitimate reason why Mr Moore's vehicle may not require compulsory motor insurance. Is it due to a 'public place' or is it an exempted vehicle? (2 marks) b) Explain, with justification, two potential options for Mrs Wood to pursue compensation for the damage to her car.
