After several observations, your baseline data suggest that the client is able to read for an average of 3 minutes at a time. The long term objective is that the client will be able to read for a total of 30-minutes a day. Creat a shaping program with short term objectives (STOs) or steps that will allow you to reach the long term objective (LTO). Below, please find a sample program: Increasing Piano Time:In order to ensure the client's success in acquiring and maintaining piano skills, it is necessary that the client be able to practice playing the piano for an uninterrupted total of 60 minutes at a time. Baseline data suggest that the client is currently able to practice for 2 minutes. Using shaping, we will increase the client's time practicing systematically. Set up the environment to reduce distractions while practicing at the piano. This can be done by: turning off the tv, removing toys from the vicinity of the piano, ensuring others are away from the piano, etc. Set a timer for the client and provide the client with the SD "It's time to practice playing piano," once the client sits at the piano and places her hands on the key, start the timer. If the client becomes distracted or stops prior to the timer going off, inform them "Looks like we got distracted," and redirect them back to the piano and reset the timer. Repeat as many times as needed until the client is successful. Once the client is successful, provide vocal praise (e.g., " You did it!") and access to a preferred reinforcer. LTO: Client will practice playing the piano for a total of 60 minutes. STO1: Client will practice playing the piano for 3 minutes, uninterrupted. STO2: Client will practice playing the piano for 5 minutes, uninterrupted
