  1. You are hired as a LEED consultant to help a client with the design of a garage of an existing residential home. The garage is large (approximately 1000 sqft) and will be the client's workshop. The client is a fabricator, who is going to have a large compressor, heavy duty welding machines, a CNC machine, and a 10,000 lbs electric column post lift. Money is not a factor, but noise, energy efficiency and the life cycle of the equipment are. Please do the following:
    1. Pick the appropriate equipment for this shop, keeping in mind LEED rules and our life cycle class. The client will most likely want a 20-year life minimum for this equipment.
      1. Welder that handle stick/tig/mig.
        1. Remember this is a fabrication shop, you will need one that can run for awhile without overheating, while using the least amount of energy
      2. Shop Compressor
        1. Residential home. Take energy and noise into consideration. Do not want to wake up the neighbors if the client needs to work late
      3. CNC Milling Machine
      4. Post lift
    2. Show an estimated energy analysis of the shop.
    3. Explain what you will use as an alternative energy source to try and offset the estimated energy used from the shop. Use as many different systems as you see fit.
    4. Using the LEED checklist, how you will make a system to try and keep this residential home energy net zero with the new shop. If this is not feasible, how can we still try and achieve a LEED color?
