You are teaching a 4th grade class. You are concerned about a new student who just enrolled into your class. As part of his registration, no information was provided to you regarding academic and behavioral concerns. After 4 weeks of being in class, you notice he has significant attention issues, impulsive, and can be disruptive. He is reading 2 years below grade level. You notice he has great fluency but no comprehension. In addition, his writing skills are weak. He has difficulty formulating simple sentences. His strength is math and he has great computation skills however, word problems are a struggle for him. If you read the problems to him, he is able to solve the problem. You need to put a plan into place to provide intervention. The plan must follow the School Based Team (SBT) referral process by completing a referral. At the SBT meeting, you and the team decide to implement a supplemental plan (Tier 2). Tier 2 is implemented for 6-8 weeks and the data represents that it is not working. So the SBT decides to implement a more intensive intervention through Tier 3. Answer the questions below in detail.

1. Describe the referral process for this student to SBT. What steps would you take to make sure you are on track in getting this student the help he needs?

2. How would RtI be implemented? What type of intervention would you use for Tier 2 to support the area of need you think is most critical for the student? What will the goalbe (ensure the goal is measurable and observable) and what intervention/strategy will you utilize to support the student in the area of need? Explain why you chose the intervention and goal?

3. Tier 2 was not successful, now the SBT will decide to provide more intensive intervention? What will the goal be? What intervention will you use? What is new and different from Tier 2 to Tier 3? Provide information on why you think the student's gap will close or it will not close? Explain

4. After 6-8 weeks of intensive intervention (Tier 3), the student is still not successful, what would your next step be for the student to receive help?

5. Provide examples of what the progress monitoring tools would like for Tier 2 and Tier 3. Reminder the tools need to match what you are targeting as the goal and intervention tool.
