You are trying to decide on what length of tubular membrane you will need to filter a water. Given a permeability of 200 lmh/bar, feed pressure is 3 bar and the feed flow rate is 100 L/h, what is the maximum length (in cm) of tube that can be utilized before either (a) running out of water (i.e., 100% recovery) or (b) running out of hydraulic pressure. Do this calculation for tube diameters of 2, 5 and 10 mm. Neglect fouling. Note, the hydraulic pressure drops from inlet to outlet due to friction, and hence, the flux will decline, too. Because of this, the pressure, flux and cross-flow are all inter-related and must be solved simultaneously through a numerical solution. Assume a density of 1000 kg/m3 and viscosity of 0.001 Pa.s [= kg/m.s b/c 1 Pa = kg/m.s2]
