You can draw your ER diagram with hand or with a ER software of the GAME OF THRONES Every Character in the book has a name. The characters can be humans and non-humans (like giants, children of the forest, etc.) Non-humans have only names and the species that they belong to. On the other hand, humans may have surnames, a year of birth, a year of death, a way of death, hair and eye color, and gender information. Because characters may appear with the same name and other information, each character has a ASoIaF unique ID number. Humans have races. Each race has a name and a list of specific characteristics. The race name is unique. A character may be born and may die in a City. Each City has a name. The City names are unique. A character may belong to a House (e.g. Starks). Each House has a name which is unique, a flag and house words (motto). When a character marries someone from a different House, then the House of this character may change. But you want to keep that persons old House name and the new House names in the database. Moreover, a person may marry many times and therefore the House name may change many times. Some characters may not belong to any House. Cities may be affiliated with Houses. Every House has a capital City but some Cities may not be related to any House. Characters may show allegiance to different Houses over time. The allegiance of that character to that House has a specific start and end date, and a reason why it started and reason why it ended. Houses must have a Head. The Heads are characters and there is a start and end date for this characters ruling period. You want to keep a track of all the Heads of every House. Every House must belong to a State (Kingdom, Region) but there may be States with no Houses. Each State has a name, a description and a government type (Kingdom, Aristocracy etc.). States must at least have one City and each State must have one Capital City. There may be States with just one City. Because of wars Cities may change hands, therefore there is a start and end date for a City to belong to a State. You want to keep a track of how Cities have changed hand over time. Every State has a Ruler (King, Queen, Lord or some other type of Ruler). The Ruler is a character. There is a start and end date of this Ruler. Each Ruler has a predecessor and a successor. The Rulers may belong to Houses. 2 Every State is a part of a Continent. There are only two Continents. Each Continent has a name and a description. States may form alliances (eg. Seven Kingdoms) between them. There is a start and end date of the alliance and one City becomes the capital of this alliance for a specific period of time (between two dates) Humans take professions. Each profession has a name. The human conducts this profession in a specific City. The profession of a specific human has a start and an end date. Characters marry other characters. The marriage has a start and end date. A character has a mother (another character) and a father (another character). For some characters the mother information, for some characters the father information and for some characters the information of both parents may not be known. The characters may own weapons. Each weapon may have a name, a material that it is made of and a type. The weapon belongs to a specific character for a specific period, then it may change hands and return back to the same owner several times. The characters may kill other characters. A character may kill many characters and many characters may kill a single character. That killing has a specific type (war, assassination) and may be realized with a specific weapon. A character after a killing may be resurrected and then killed again, several times. These killings have a specific date and location. The characters may own pets (animals). Each pet has a name, a birth and death year, and a species. Each pet must have an owner. The reason why these pets are stored in the database is their owners. The pets may kill some Characters. This death has a specific date and location. There are wars. The wars have a start and end date. The wars consist of battles. The battles have a name and a specific location. Characters and Houses participates to these wars and battles. There may be winners in battles and wars but sometimes a battle or a war may end in a stalemate. If it is required you can make any assumptions / additions a) List your Entity Sets: e.g. Characters b) Draw your ER Diagram c) Define the Data Dictionary of Characters Entity Set and ALL of the subclasses it has (if it has)
