You have completed a thorough course designed to inform you about the threats of Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying (HIB), and discrimination for many marginalized groups of students in particular, the LGBTQAI+ students and the ELL students - and you have acquired a range of strategies to think of a positive classroom and school environment that can greatly reduce the chances of such incidents in the school community. • Having taken this course I feel more confident in my ability to proactively and responsively address discriminatory harassment. For example, reflecting for next school year, I want to dedicate time in building culture in my classroom by working with students in establishing our classroom agreements, finding way to better get to know my students and their families and facilitating a safe and brave space for students to be able to talk about key topics that are occurring in our society or school.
• I would like to learn more about the Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework. I would like to look for examples in how other schools have done certain things from this resource and see how I can implement it in my classroom and school so that we can continue to build a better environment for our students.
• My next step would be to reach out to our student committee and administer to learn more about what resources do we have a school and what have we been doing as a school overall to continue to foster a better learning environment for students. I would then find ways to share some of the resources with my colleagues and see if we can collaborate as a whole. This is something that is a bit easier to do in my school since we are a smaller campus than most schools. In addition, I would like to see what other Professional Developments I can take that further support what I have learned from this course.  Irene A.
