Background: The Sikh religion originated in Northern India. Turbans and Kachera are worn at all times for religious reasons.

  • Turbans or scarves cover uncut hair.
  • If the turban or scarf must be removed, an alternative head covering must be provided.
  • The turban or scarf should be respected. Ex: It would be disrespectful to put then on the floor or near shoes.
  • Kachera are undershorts/undergarments. One leg must remain in the Kachera t all times.

You are a little nervous as you have never met someone who is Sikh before. The provider usually wants the patient to be undressed with a gown on and seated on the exam table.
