You Make the Call

For each of the following situations, indicate whether or not the researcher made the right decision in regard to the test statistic they chose and why you say that.If you disagree with the choice, indicate what statistic you would use instead and why.

1.A primary care clinic has experienced issues with medication reconciliation failures. The FNPs working in the practice have suggested implementing an evidence-based practice medication reconciliation program for primary care providers. They decide to implement the EBP and then evaluate if medication reconciliation failures (yes/no) are associated with the EBP (pre/post) using a CHI Square. Did they make the right call?

2.A healthcare organization recognizes that many patients seen by primary care providers are ranking the check-in process as poor, on the patient satisfaction survey scale (0 - unsatisfactory, 1 - neutral, 2 - satisfactory). The organization decides it would like to trial an electronic check-in system that allows patients to complete the check-in process on an iPad in the waiting room. The organization leaders decide to pilot the new technology in 5 of their 32 offices. They evaluate the effectiveness of the new technology by determining if there is an association between satisfaction rankings and the new technology (pre/post) using a Pearson correlation. Did they make the right call?
