You must show your work/supporting evidence for ALL problems on ALL labs (unless you are in the Self-paced group). Part 2 should include all formulas involved as supporting evidence. Points will be deducted without support. You are expected to collaborate (including, but not limited to posting all answers showing your work)in the forum for Lab 3, failure to do so will result in a zero grade(unless you are in the Self-paced group).Copying others' work will also result in azero grade.

All work MUST be shown on your final lab submission.

This lab will explore the dynamics within a pulse and how they affect one another.

PROBLEM 1 Part I Calculate the PRP, PRF, PD, DF, wavelength, SPL, distance of reflector interface and period if a 3 cycle pulse emitted from a 5 MHz transducer if the echo time received was 10 ms in soft tissue. HINT: work in this order, and use the formula sheet: distance PRF PRP Period PD DF wavelength (should be mm) SPL (should be mm) Part II - Using the information above: 1. If frequency increases what happens to the PD? 2. If wavelength decreases what happens to the DF? 3. If depth increases what happens to the PRFmax? 4. If SPL decreases what happens to the DF? 5. If PD increases what happens to the DF? 6. If SPL decreases what happens to the PD? 7. If the cycles in a pulse decreases what happens to the PD? 8. If wavelength decreases what happens to the PD?

PROBLEM 2

Part I Calculate the PRP, PRF, PD, DF, SPL, wavelength, period, and Axial Resolution if a 2 cycle pulse emitted from a 10 MHz transducer if the echo time received was 0.26 ms in soft tissue.

Part II - Using the information above:

1. If the PRF decreases what happens the DF?

2. If PRP decreases what happens to the PRF?

3. If the frequency increases what happens to the axial resolution (improve or degrade)?

4. If wavelength decreases what happens to the DF?
