You want to measure the speed of a 22 calibre bullet with a mass of 14 g, with only a spring, a block of mass 1.5 kg, a stopwatch, a ruler, a scale, and a frictionless table. You remember that you did something like this in a physics lecture. You first hang the 1.5 kg block from the spring and notice it results in an extension of 16 cm. You attach one end of the 1.5 kg block to the spring and the other end to a fixed wall and place the block on the trictionless table. You then shoot the bullet horizontally into the block (just like in the lectureotes) which is initially at rest. The bullet becomes embedded into the block. After the collision the block (with bullet inside) undergoes simple harmonic motion. The amplitude of the simple harmonic motion is 0.9 m
