You will be looking at a particular market in the economy. I will assign the market to you arbitrarily. Please look for at the end of this document to identify which market you will be responsible for researching. Your first task will be to closely look at what is going on in this market that you have been assigned in terms of supply and demand and the factors that influence these forces. This means you will have to do some research and some reading to find an article online that describes the market and some of the factors that have recently effected the market.

Once you have selected an article that succinctly describes the market you have been assigned, you will carefully analyze that article. When you clearly understand the article, you will begin the process of creating a report that should consist the following sections: the tital page, introduction, main body, conclusions and references (This will include a link to the newspaper article(s) and websites that you read to learn about this topic).

Use what you know about the industry you have been assigned, the article you have selected, and the knowledge from this course to write your report. I have outlined what should be included in each section below, but this is just a guide, you may have an article that contains other pertinent information that you wish to include.

This list is really endless. Especially since COVID, we have seen so many markets turned upside down. Most supply chains in construction and electronics have seen severe shortages. Housing prices went crazy, food prices are still crazy.

The INTRODUCTIONportion of your report should include the following:

• What market/industry did you research?

• Is there anything particularly interesting about this particular market/article that you should share?

• What has affected this market recently?

• Is this market susceptible to volatility? If so, why?

• Is this market regulated by the government? If so, how?

• Is the market subject to competition? How has that impacted the market?

The introduction is expected to be two pages 2 spaced.

The MAIN BODY of your report should address each of the questions below. Ideally, your article will describe BOTH a supply side and a demand side effect.If it does not, you will have to come up with realistic events that might impact the market in your report. explain and justify your analysis using current events and market facts you have researched to support your conclusions.

• Has the demand side of the market been effected? If so how. If your article does not explicitly describe how demand has been effected, you are required to identify and explain two realistic factors that might cause a shift in the demand curve. (Two factors for an increase and two for a decrease. They must be different factors, opposed to one factor with an increase and the same factor as a decrease)

• Has the supply side of the market been effected? If so, how? If your article does not explicitly describe how supply has been effected, you are required to identify and explain two realistic factors that might cause a shift in the supply curve.

• Identify and explain any intervention relating to this market. Explain the objective of that intervention and the outcome of that intervention. Illustrate the impact on the market using supply and demand curves.

• Has the market/industry in your article been affected by any unique circumstances? This might be COVID, competition, mergers, regulations, takeovers, innovation, social pressure, demographics, etc. A really good submission will contain something that has caused friction/volatility/change in the industry so that you can write about it in your report.

The main body is expected to be two pages, 2 spaced.

The CONCLUSION section of your report will summarize the key findings of your article and analysis. It will include:

• A succinct description of the key findings in the article.

• Your interpretation of the impact on the market.

• Your forecast/determination as to the future of the market.

The conclusion is expected to be one page, 2 spaced.
