You will first read a brief case report for John Jones as well as a raw copy of his risk assessment which was conducted using the Violence Risk Appraisal Guide (VRAG; discussed in your readings). Note that if a psychologist was conducting a risk assessment, they would have access to much more information than you are provided in the brief case report. After reading the case report and VRAG, you will be asked to do the following: 1. Briefly identify the static and dynamic risk factors that are present for John Jones, as noted in the case report. Case Report for John Jones John is a White male, born on July 2nd, 1992. John has been charged and convicted with aggravated assault which occurred in February 2020. Details of the incident are as follows: John was at a bar in downtown Toronto with a few friends, trying to pick up some girls. There was another man at the bar who was trying to get to know the same girl that John was trying to talk to. Words were exchanged, and a fight broke out between the two men. John picked up the nearest thing he could find and used a wooden barstool to smash the victim's head. The victim immediately fell to the ground and the police were called. The bar closed and everyone inside quickly evacuated. The victim was admitted to the hospital. He suffered a concussion and had to get stitches on his head. He remained in critical condition for one week, and was later released. After speaking with the victim, and the bar staff from that night, it was suspected that alcohol played a role in the altercation between John and the victim. John has a long history of alcohol use, dating back to his early teens. He has no prior offences. John grew up in a small town in Ontario, Canada. His biological father, who has a criminal history of assaults and break and enters, left his mother before John was born. John was raised by his biological mother and his abusive step-father. Growing up in this environment affected John at school as well. He did not have a lot of friends, and was not well liked by the teachers. In grades 7 and 8, John's mother was frequently called by the school principal for concerns of John skipping classes, fighting with his peers, and expressing disrespectful remarks to his teachers. John is impulsive, easily frustrated, and has difficulty focusing his attention. He's worked a total of eight months in his entire life.
