You will interview someone who owns and/or operates a small business. You may interview them in person, via phone, or in any other form of communication, as long as you adhere to the requirements below.

Interview:

  1. The form of your interview can take any form that is easily accessed and text are all acceptable, as long as they can be submitted.
  2. You will clearly provide the name of your interviewee, their title, the name of their organization, and their contact information (both phone and email).
  3. Your interviewee must be working full-time and be responsible for almost all aspects of management in their workplace, so as to be able to speak to most or all of the general topics that are covered in our modules.
  4. You will ask at least two questions pertaining to concepts.
  5. Your questions should be open-ended, such that they elicit detailed and informative responses. For example, instead of asking, "do you forecast future workforce needs?" (which can be answered in a "yes" or "no" answer, you might ask, "how do you forecast future workforce needs?"
  6. Follow-up questions will likely be necessary to learn about your small business owner's goals and tactics.
  7. Your goal should be to learn how your interviewee approaches and manages small business operational problems, whether common or uncommon.
  8. For the fun of it (for both of us) throw in some curve ball questions. For example, you could ask what situations have been most surprising, funny, or interesting, or upsetting. You can come up with your own curve ball questions, based on how your interview goes!

Analysis:

    1. Your analysis must be in written form..
    2. Your analysis should carefully consider your interviewee's answers by applying the relevant concepts from the materials we covered in our modules. How does your interviewee adhere to the concepts we covered; how does she stray from them? up above are some pin point that needs to be included.
    3. what are your interviewee's methods, styles, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you were this interviewee's boss or subordinate would you have any compliments or criticisms? How would you suggest he/she improve and what benefits do you think would result from your suggested changes?
