You will make a presentation that informs and educates new Canadian citizens about theCanadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and about important actions that they can take as responsible Canadian citizens.

Task 1: Familiarizing yourself with theCanadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

" to familiarize yourself with the document and the concepts and beliefs that it outlines.

Task 2: Explaining responsible citizenship

You will now outline three of the most important actions a responsible Canadian citizen can take. It is essential that these actions are ones that would uphold the rights outlined in theCanadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Once you have outlined these actions, you will need to explain how each one of them relates to aCharter right or freedom, and how it promotes responsible citizenship.

When deciding which actions every responsible citizen should take, ensure that each one

• is feasible for the average Canadian
• makes an important contribution toward maintaining a democratic society
• helps to ensure that the rights of all Canadians are respected

Finally, ensure that your chosen actions cover the following categories from theCanadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (one action for each category):

• Fundamental rights
• Democratic or mobility rights
• Legal or equality rights

Task 3: Creating your guide

You need to put together your information in a clear, logical, and visually appealing way.

Use one of the following presentation options for your guide. Be sure to be as creative as possible, while still focusing on the content that you will include.

You may choose to create one of the following:

• Poster
• Pamphlet
• Video
• PowerPoint or Prezi
• Newsletter for a local school or community
• Website page

Regardless of which presentation option you choose, you will need to include the following:

• A title and appropriate headings
• Clear and concise information about each action and how it is an important element of responsible citizenship
• A minimum of one related image or graphic for each action (at least three images/graphics in total)
