You will take all the great work you have done in Social Explorer, Living Atlas, and Leaflet, and connect it to the three major concepts in the course; storytelling, visual hierarchy, and data wizardry
Step 1: Discover/find a problem
-
Step 2: Think about a story you want to tell about these data - what kinds of visualizations/maps you want to use
-
Step 3: Find/Collect Data About these Issues
-
Step 4: Massage or finesse these data into a platform of your choice (in this case we won't be doing Leaflet because I didn't teach you how to use your own data)
-
Step 5: Use visual hierarchy principles to create your story
-
Step 6: Use words, images, and other resources to tell your story
-
I prefer not to place too many fetters on you - Story Maps are designed for creativity.
The outline below is a suggestion - people have done really fun Story Maps that aren't related to Covid as well
-
1. Please put together a Story Map that includes maps from your first two mastery problems (We won't be including Leaflet here)
-
2. The Story Map should be structured through the six steps listed above
-
3. You should discuss storytelling, visual hierarchy, and data wizardry - explaining how you APPLIED these concepts in the maps you made in the mastery projects
-
I'm not expecting you to create new maps - UNLESS I specifically told you to make corrections when I graded your mastery assignments
-
Again - I expect you to creatively put together your maps with the core course concepts using Story Maps
-
Use the six-step template above as inspiration
-
Please submit the link to your story map and make sure I can view it
