you will undertake the role of an IT Support and Network Technician working in a help-desk environment. You tasked to create a small wireless network to test the software and equipment that you have recommended by your manager (NOS, Applications, etc.). Therefore, you have to Install and configure all of the necessary hardware and software to allow two PCs, one laptop, a print server and a printer to be attached to the network. You will be required to complete four tasks as part of this role. You will be assessed on how safely you conduct the required activities and your overall performance will be observed. This will include how you present and conduct yourself in the manner of an IT Support Technician, throughout all parts of the assessment. Task A Researching hardware requirements Resolve and specify the hardware devices required to upgrade the existence wired network to add an extra wireless network: Negotiate and List the network devices you will add, principle of their work in addition. Cables used, bandwidth requirements. Design (topology), Assess the network topology and why you choose it precisely. You are asked to attach a wireless router, so you are required to examine & research best specification of this device. What is the brand of wireless router? wireless network interface cards (speed support) you have to specify a wireless encryption protocol that they need to use. Create a template that will be used to examine your comparison report. This report should specify the various options for replacing the existing hardware devices. And a comparison of Wired LAN vs. Wireless LAN, taking into account the benefits and drawbacks of each. You should include what is best for them by creating a table that displays three different types of wireless standards (such as 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11 ac). They requested that you recommend the best performance at the best price. You have to identify and research a list of servers types, principle of their work, and suggest one or two for the network (Justify your options). Consider how protocols like DHCP, DNS, and others help to improve the network infrastructure? Task B Implementing a network You are going to scheme a small wireless network consists of at least 2 Laptops and one network printer, beside of two subnets network that already exist consists of 4 PCs on each one, and connect them together, to access the equipment that you have recommended in the previous task. Apply and execute all the necessary servers on a separated subnet. Install and configure the wireless router. The following options should be configured on the wireless router: Re-name Wireless SSID (something clever). Set a Wireless Security PSK (Pre-shared Key). By DHCP server, change the LAN Subnet to a different Private IP Address Subnet and change the Mask (Classless). All devices must access the print server. Make sure the connectivity, speed, and response time meet the requirements, by using PING or Traceroute commands from any employee device to servers and all other nodes. (Take an image of echo replay message and save it). Task C Configuring a server (VM) An additional server has been provided to act as a Backup server for the whole network. Use the VMware workstation or any similar program to formulate a schedule backup service. You will test by making backup action of the main shared folder existing on the file server (recording your screen when you working on it). You are asked to install and configure a DHCP server. Task D Routine Maintenance You have been tasked with exploring the routine maintenance that will be needed for wireless network hardware to ensure that there is a minimum of down time. you have to show and review the bandwidth amount of each router interfaces (considering the type of NIC installed in each host) and write a reports (Microsoft Word) showing the expected time to transfer a file of a certain size from any host to the file server based on your design, and comparing it to the actual time that your implementation takes to transfer the file. (the pictures of interfaces information must be included in the report). Any potential features to improve or secure the network system that will be reflected in your designed network should be suggested and reviewed. Assignment activity and guidance General guidance This assessment has been designed to allow trainees to demonstrate the practical skills required in a Network and IT Support role. The assessment consists of four tasks that should be undertaken in a realistic or simulated work environment and should require each trainee to spend approximately 5 weeks on the entire assessment. It should be noted that the assessment should be undertaken in a holistic manner, and therefore all tasks should be delivered as part of the same assessment, and not in isolation. The trainees may undertake the tasks in any order that is best for the center, though tasks that involve any followthrough should be undertaken sequentially.
