You work at a Bedford Limestone quarry in central Indiana, where you supervise a crew of mostly men who perform various jobs at a limestone quarry/production site. This is an above-ground operation where the tasks involve using large equipment that cuts large blocks of stone. Other equipment operators haul the very heavy blocks of limestone to entries of the production site, where other employees carefully monitor the robotic style equipment that further cut and shape the stone. Cut stone then proceeds to the part of the operation where some gets polished. Polished and unpolished stone proceeds to shipment. The stone is used for building exteriors. The company sells to commercial builders and contractors, as well as smaller retail operations.
The entire 24 hour operation (line) consists of around 200 employees who work somewhat dangerous and repetitive jobs. There are 5 line supervisors for each of three shifts. Upper management includes a VP of operations (thats you); a VP of marketing; a VP of logistics; and, a President. Using the theories introduced to you, including Maslows Needs Based Theory, Herzbergs Theory that defines motivating and hygiene factors, and equity and expectancy theories, develop a plan of activities to motivate your employees to produce at the highest possible level. Format: On the following page, expand the table (below) or use an Excel spreadsheet. Three good strategies (action plans) will get you a C grade. Five or more good strategies will get you better. Be thorough in your explanations. Provide the detail.
