Your project team has been tasked to complete a project to build a new bridge to replace an old one on a road and at a point that crosses a small river in a rural community.
The old bridge to be replaced is on a single access road to the community and was recently damaged by heavy vehicles crossing it for a construction work in the village.
The old bridge is still in use but has failed in the mid-section and can collapse at anytime the project is therefore urgent from a safety point of view. The bridge is used by both vehicles and pedestrians at all times of the year.
The community had petitioned the municipality/local government for support in replacing the old bridge but the response had been slow. A private company decided to take initiative and is replacing the bridge at their expense. They have hired you and your team to manage the bridge replacement project.
Work in your project team to prepare a project plan that includes ALL of following:
1. A project charter highlighting the need for the bridge, a high level budget, the scope, major project risks, key stakeholders and the overall objective(s) (1 A4 page).
2. Prepare a Scope Statement document, clearly detailing the scope of the project, assumptions, exclusions, dependencies, objectives and deliverables (1 A4 page).
3. Create a project team lists and a team management plan for executing the project (1 page).
4. Create a stakeholder ID and analysis plan that identifies and analyzes all stakeholders in the
project, detailing their influence, needs, requirements, etc. (2 pages).
5. Create a communication plan for engaging the identified stakeholders from your stakeholder
analysis (1 page).
6. Create a Work Break Down structure in the indented format highlighting the deliverables and
activities for the project and including work activity ID, details, a WBS dictionary and an OBS (2 pages including MS Word in layout or excel). Use Visio or MS Project or similar tool to prepare the WBS.
7. Create time estimate and cost estimates using any suitable estimation method of your choice and state key assumptions (2 pages total 1 page each for cost & time estimates in tabular form).
8. Create an Activity on Node network diagram for the project and complete the backward and forward passes, showing ES, EF, LS, LF, DUR, free and total slack. Also determine and confirm the critical path(s) of the project (2 pages in layout).
9. Create a risk management plan consisting of risk ID, risk analysis, risk response and mitigation, opportunities and risk deployment (2 pages maximum in portrait or tabular form).
10. Create a resource-based project schedule using a suitable project management software e.g. MS Project and showing a clear and detailed Gantt chart from start to completion of the project and highlighting key milestones. Make sure the schedule is resource loaded. Use Excel, MS Project or similar tool to prepare the schedule Gantt chart
11. Create a time-phased budget for completing the project (1 page).
12. Create a list of project documents that will be generated as part of completing the project (1 page).
13. Create a list of key contractors, vendors or suppliers for the project (1 page).
14. Create a list of project completion activities and handover details for closure of the project (1
page).
15. Individual Element: Write a short reflection of not more than 400 words (1 A4 page) on key
lessons learned from working with your project team to complete the project.
What have you learned that will be valuable for you in the future? How you would approach it differently if having a similar opportunity to manage the project next time (Individual Reflection submission on different evaluation link on Moodle).
NOTES: Only one group member should submit 1 combined file of all of the above pages for the assignment on behalf of the group. This is excluding the Individual Reflection part in (15)
