Your quota for this project is to conduct at least 10 informal face-to-face interviews (in rare cases you may do one Skype/phone interview) with people from a targeted industry or occupation. This, in turn, should lead to 2 or 3 mentors in your field of interest. These individuals must be in the upper management/ownership positions (i.e. Bank tellers, waiters/waitresses/bartenders, admin/secretary, people in your current position will not count towards your quota). Recommended Steps: Think about an industry or occupations that interest you Utilizing LinkedIn is strongly recommended since you are going to have access to LinkedIn Sales Navigator Put together a list of 30-50 people who might accept your invitation for an informal interview (keep your fingers crossed that 10 might agree to meet with you) Make sure you add those leads to SalesForce.com (You will be given access to an account) Give yourself and the interviewee enough time to conduct the interview (hint- if you wait till last minute or closer to mid-tenn or the end of semester you are going to have a hard time getting anyone to sit down with you) You must send emails (and keep records of them) to set up the appointment (DO NOT USE THE INMAIL FEATURE IN LINKEDIN! ! !) Conduct a 15-20 minute interview finding out about the industry and the interviewee, steps taken to lead to this position, day-to-day activities, challenges, rewards, pros and cons, trends impacting the industry, Vision for the future of the industry etc. (hint- go to the interview with some prepared questions and ready to explore other topics as they come up, and M notes) Do your best to complete all the interviews at least two weeks before the due date as it becomes almost impossible to do so the closer we get to the end of semester (there will be some class time during semester provided to conduct your interviews). You must follow up by an email] hand written note/LinkedIn. .. to thank the interviewee (keep records of them) Write a 5-6 pages report (typed). This report must include a short summary of the highlights of each interview, proofs of your follow-up communication and your reection of this assignment (what you learned, what you would do differently, whether you are still interested in the industry/occupation, the best advice learned. . .). Please make sure you carefully proof read the paper (points will be taken off if this step is not done properly)
