A charge of 100 kmol of an equimolar mixture of A, B, and C, with aA;B = 2 and aA;C = 4, is distilled in a batch rectifier containing four theoretical stages, including the still-pot. If holdup can be neglected, use the shortcut method with R = 5 and V = 100 kmol/h to estimate the variation of the still-pot and instantaneous-distillate compositions as a function of time after total reflux conditions are established.
