The largest construction project Stonehenge has seen for several millennia has been completed with the opening of the prestigious new visitor centre. However, visitors to the new £27 million visitor centre have criticized English Heritage for ‘chaotic scenes’ as the venue struggles to cope with the number of people attending. The new operational arrangements have fallen well short of being able to cope with thousands of visitors every day. Visitors have been resorting to websites such as TripAdvisor to complain of a host of logistical problems surrounding the operation of the new facility – in particular, the ticketing and transportation from the centre to the stones and back again. Many have complained of queues of more than an hour to board a ‘land train’ – three carriages pulled by a Land Rover – which carries around 45 people at a time and takes 10 minutes to travel the mile and a half from the centre at Airmen’s Corner to Stonehenge
