COVID-19 control charts. To help deal with the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, the Montgomery County (PA) Fire & Rescue Service created quality control charts for various virus metrics such as daily call volume and daily number patients transported. (www.ems1.com.) Patient turnover time (i.e., the number of minutes it takes for the COVID-19 patient to be seen by a doctor at the local hospital) is another key variable. (Montgomery County set a goal of less than 25 minutes for this metric.) An x-chart for daily average patient turnover time between January 5 and April 4, 2020, had a center line of minutes, an upper control limit of 24.67 minutes, and a lower control limit of 15.38 minutes. (Due to differences in the daily sample size of patients, the UCL and LCL are not equidistant from the center line.) How should the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service interpret the following results: (1) On May 1, 2020, the average patient turnover time was 25.7 minutes, or (2) Between March 17 and March 29, 2020, all average patient turnover times were below 20.18 minutes
