Since opening its doors to Western investors in 1979, the People's Republic of China has been steadily moving toward a market economy. However, because of the considerable political and economic uncertainties in China, Western investors remain uneasy about their investments in China. In 1995 an agency of the Chinese government surveyed 402 foreign investors to assess their concerns with the investment environment. Each was asked to indicate their most serious concern. The results appear below.
