12.61 Sixteen workers were randomly selected to participate in an experiment to determine the effects of work

Question:

12.61 Sixteen workers were randomly selected to participate in an experiment to determine the effects of work scheduling and method of payment on attitude toward the job. Two types of scheduling were employed, the standard 8 to 5 workday and a modification whereby the worker was permitted to start the day at either 7 A.M. or 8 A.M. and to vary the starting time as desired; in addition, the worker was allowed to choose, on a daily basis, either a -hour or 1-hour lunch period. The two methods of payment were a standard hourly rate and a reduced hourly rate with an added piece rate based on the worker’s production. Four workers were randomly assigned to each of the four scheduling/payment combinations, and each completed an attitude test after one month on the job. The test scores are shown in table below.

a Construct an analysis of variance table for the data.
b Do the data provide sufficient information to indicate a factor interaction? Test by using 0.05. Explain the practical implications of your test.
c Do the data indicate that any of the scheduling/
payment combinations produce a mean attitude score that is clearly higher than the other three? Test by using a simultaneous Type I error rate of approximately 0.05, and interpret your results.
