Strategy Spotlight 1.1 discusses four activities that underlie ambidextrous behaviors—a dual capacity for alignment and adaptability. Interview two managers in a public, private, or volunteer organization and ask them the following questions: (1) How often do you engage in each of these activities? (2) In your view, which are most important and why? and (3) How would the most effective managers you know “score” on each of these activities? Do you think that the differences in the responses you obtain are due to differences with regard to the managers’ personalities, the particular position they have within the organization, or the type of industry in which they work?
