A number of progressively severe disciplinary actions, ranging from an informal talk to a warning, suspension, and discharge, are open to a supervisor as choices, depending on the circumstances and nature of the infraction. The supervisor’s purpose in taking disciplinary action should be to improve the employee’s behavior and to maintain proper discipline throughout the department.
