3.1 A particular application in System Telecom is giving cause for concern because of the increasing number of programming errors being found during its early operational life. Herr Norbert Rothaas has asked you to chair a meeting that will clearly state the problem and recommend appropriate action. He then wants you to give him a short verbal summary of the main issues and back this up with a report. How would you plan for this assignment?

Think first of all about the implications of the assignment. You need to:

• find out who can contribute towards resolving this issue and bring them together in a constructive environment;

• organise an effective meeting;

• investigate the problem and identify solutions;

• make a brief presentation to him;

• write an accurate and comprehensive report.

Each of these is a systems task in itself. Three of them have been covered in this chapter, but you will have to be creative to work out how to complete the first task of bringing the appropriate people together.
