Particle physics experiments are shielded from cosmic ray muons by placement underground, often in old mines. Cosmic ray muons have been detected at 2000 feet below ground at the Home stake Gold Mine in South Dakota. Estimate a lower limit on the energy of these muons when created high in the atmosphere.
