Consider the impact of teams on us in terms of the motivation that can be created ('team spirit') and the creativity and problem solving that can come from bouncing ideas off colleagues and contributing to innovative work. This occurs in sporting teams, workplace teams and other contexts. In the future we should expect to experience collaborative teamwork technologies (e.g. Trello, Slack, Dropbox) that continue to improve in the way they support and enable teamwork processes. We will see more opportunities and technical capabilities for teams that work simultaneously on documents from different locations and time zones, communications technologies that keep improving for virtual teams, and other real-time information systems that facilitate teamwork. Some of those team contributions will eventually become artificially intelligent agents, acting as team members! Imagine having an intelligent robot on your team! It will be able to search efficiently for data to support team processes, create documents faster than humans, and contribute to problem solving and innovation, significantly enhancing human efforts.
