Google Glass and Baidu Eye are wearable computers that use headmounted cameras and recognize and understand your spoken commands. Google Glass’s camera can take photos or videos on command. Glass also has a tiny head-mounted screen on which you can see a few lines of text, such as a patient’s vital statistics or the first few results of a Google search. In contrast, Baidu Eye’s camera has software that allows it to recognize objects. If you ask it about an object in front of you, such as an art piece in a museum, a pair of shoes in a display window, or an acquaintance whose name you can’t remember, it searches for the information online and uses a synthetic voice to whisper it to you through an earphone. It has no headmounted screen, but can use your smartphone to display information, if you wish. What customer needs are Google Glass and Baidu Eye each best suited to satisfy?
