Management occupations. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics uses the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system to classify workers into one of more than 820 occupations according to their occupational definition. To facilitate classification, occupations requiring similar job duties, skills, education, or experience are combined to form 23 major groups.

Go to http://stats.bls.gov/soc/soc_majo.htm to see the 23 major groups; choose the link for “Management Occupations.” Select one management occupation of interest to you under each of the four minor groups

(11-1000 for Top Executives; 11-2000 for Advertising, Marketing, Promotions, Public Relations, and Sales Managers; 11-3000 for Operations Specialties Managers;

and 11-9000 for Other Management Occupations). List the SOC number, occupation title, and description for the four occupations you selected.
