Question:
Under the conditions given in Prob. 15.9, how long would it take to heat the vessel contents (a) from 20 to 60C, (b) from 60 to 100C?
Prob. 15.9
A turbine-agitated vessel 2 m in diameter contains 5,500 kg of a dilute aqueous solution. The agitator is 2/3 m in diameter and turns at 140 r/min. The vessel is jacketed with steam condensing at 110°C; the heat-transfer area is 12 m2. The steel walls of the vessel are 10 mm thick. If the solution is at 40°C and the heat-transfer coefficient of the condensing steam is 10 kW/m2·°C, what is the rate of heat transfer between steam and liquid?
