A psychologist studying addictions investigated the effectiveness of three different treatments for alcoholism on the number of strong urges to drink alcohol that were experienced at the end of treatment. He matched 30 alcoholics into groups of three based on the severity of their addiction and then randomly assigned them to the three different treatments. (Each person assigned to Alcoholics Anonymous attended a different group.)
