The issue behind drug trafficking and terrorist activity is an issue that has plagued our country for quite some time as it has been found that many terrorist, organized criminal agencies, and gangs seek to gain financing through illegal drug trafficking. The Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations to the Office of Intelligence Steven McCraw (2003) gave a testimony in 2003 that specifically cited evidence linking the heroin trade from the Middle East being shipped into the United States for financing organizations like the Taliban, al-Qaida, and Sunni extremists. As these organizations seek to carry out their agendas towards terrorist acts against various countries they gain the means to purchase weapons, goods, and services through the highly profitable drug trafficking trade in that region. As they seek to maintain these forms of financing they link up with other criminal and financial links that seek to further this agenda for profit and end up being involved in other lucrative financial means such as mail fraud, illegal money transmitting business, and many other white collar crimes in and out of our country (McCraw, 2003).
