The Promise Seed Co. was founded in Baltimore in 1876 by a 19-year-old with a passion for plants and animals and a father willing to lend him $1,000 of €œseed money€ to get started in business. Today, it is owned by Tim Carlton Jr. One of Promise€™s most demanded seeds is corn. Promise continues to increase production to meet the growing demand. To this end, an experiment such as the one presented here is used to determine the combination of fertilizer and seed type that produces the largest number of kernels per ear.
